Ideal body shape, weight related comments from coaches, family, and peers along with pressure to train hard are common in elite sport contexts. To keep training with an eating disorder can increase the risk of premature death. Far too many athletes never get any support with their eating problems at all. As far as the prevalence of eating disorders, the hidden statistics are high. Therefore, it’s unclear whether the number of eating disorders cases have increased in Sweden or not over the past 10 years. Sports where low weight and a lean body shape is encouraged and where weighing is a part of the practice increase the risk of developing an eating disorder.
